I just got a notice in the mail from Medicare stating that submission of paper claims is prohibited unless we are exempt due to one of several reasons. One of the reasons is that we are a small provider with less than 25 employees. This is true for us. My husband is the doctor (DC) and I am the only one who works in the office. Technically I'm not even an employee, I pay myself for bookkeeping as an independent contractor and 1099 myself at the end of the year. Medicare wants me to send proof that we don't have over 25 employees. They suggested copies of payroll records. I don't have any payroll records since I don't have any payroll. My husband takes a draw, not a regular paycheck. Any suggestions as to what kind of proof Medicare would find acceptable?
