Hello All.
I have a question that we have been pondering all week.
Medicare defines an SCT transport as a hospital-to-hospital transportation of a critically injured or ill beneficiary by a ground ambulance vehicle, including the provision of medically necessary supplies and services, at a level of service beyond the scope of an EMT-Paramedic.
Okay, that said, we transport many cardiac patients on a Heparin GTT. Now, in WI, Heparin is an approved med for a medic to administer, but the use and maintenance of the pump is above and beyond the scope of a paramedic training. They have to rcv additional training in order to administer the drup via pump, so my thinking is that would mean that the transport would qualify as an SCT...but some are leaning towards not because Heparin can be administered by a medic...
Any thoughts?
