Here is another question. Our contract with BCBS pays higher than Medicare allwble. When a patient has Medicare as secondary, Medicare pays the copay or coinsurance per BCBS contract. But sometimes (specially with hospital patients) it does not pay anything and denies with a code C0-22(contractual obligation, other ins. paid) and puts the patient responsibility to $0.00.
I guess the question is (besides Medicaid pt., whom you can't bill) can I bill patients for their copay/coinsurance or am I under the Medicare contract in this circumstance and should take Medicare allowable as the sole payment (since primary has already paid more than medicare allowable).
