So I have a doctor who just received notice that he needs to refund $745 to an insurance company for 3 months worth of claims (from Sept-Nov 2015) because the insurance is saying that the employer just notified them that they need to term the patients policy effective 9/1/15. In other situations, with other insurance companies, I have found that they say "keep the money" and they go after the employer because the delay was their fault, but not this insurance! What gives? I believe it is legal for the insurance to request the money back from the provider, but from a moral stand point, I think it's just wrong! Also, the patient says that the policy should have been active, so is it possible that the employer just gave the wrong information, and it was supposed to have termed September 2016, and should the doctor send the money back or just wait for the patient to deal with the insurance company?
