Hi Barbara,

What I meant by that was I didn't think any of the insurance companies we are currently contracted with would allow us to reverse a contractual adjustment made to a primary billing in order to post additional payment from a non-COB'ing secondary. I thought Steve seemed to be implying that there could be some contracts written to allow this practice, and I was curious about this.

Only one of the insurance carriers we bill does not coordinate benefits. We're not contracted with them, but we bill them (last, as payor of last resort), and they tell us to refund any overpayment they make to the patient. I assumed we had to, simply because not doing so would mean we would be accepting more than the contracted, primary insurance carrier's allowed amount.
