My insurance also changed this year. $1,500 deductible, but that also includes medications; which we were not informed of at the time we signed up for benefits. It was NOT disclosed to the Dr. until after the first of the year. I am very unhappy with our benefits, as one medication I am on costs $245 every 30 days. There are only 4 manufacturers in the country and I was told that "my insurance company sets the prices of the medication." That's nice!!!!! I was able to find an online coupon for $50 off, by the manufacturer.
God bless my employer that he gave us $1,000 over the course of the year to make up for the higher deductible. I told him my dilemma and he gave me the addt'l $$ to help me meet my deductible sooner. Once that happens, then it will cost me like $125 for 90 days through my mail order pharmacy.
Also, now the "routine" tests that I have to complete to keep up with my genetic disorder that I was dx'd with in 2002 have to be put off, so I can meet my deductible and have these visits covered. I voiced my opinion to my employer and let him know about the prescription part too. He didn't know it until I informed him. He said he'll be looking for at different plans next year. I'm the wiser now...will be putting $$ into my savings acct for next year....can't afford to have this happen again. I had to spend 2 days trying to get this sorted out, otherwise it was going to cost me $643 for 90 days of medication, through my mail order, which I have always used for my medications. Good thing I checked first.
It's a lot of juggling in my opinion. It is going to make very sick people not get the help they need, because they cannot afford it.What a friggin' racket!!!!! Crappy Ob_ _ _care!
