Okay, Steve, I got a chuckle out of this. I go by the rule... "Failure to plan on your part does not make an emergency on mine."

So if a patient fails to plan properly for their medication needs while on vacation, I call it stupidity, not medically necessary.

But hey, if insurance pays, then they pay. If they don't, then the patient can call them and explain their emergency.

By the way, for another chuckle, some recent "emergencies" that I've heard for early medication refills: The dog ate my Xanax, I opened the medicine cabinet and my meds fell into the toilet and dissolved, I lost it on the way out of the pharmacy to the car..."
