Must be your carrier that requires the medical necessity statement, that's not a requirement in Michigan. I don't submit any supporting documentation unless they pend the claim, wanting the medical necessity information.

Medicare is making some exceptions to the electronic requirement. If you have less than 10 employees, you may still submit paper claims.

However, that mandate may change in the future. I've heard several possibilities. They want everyone to be electronic. It's easier, cheaper and faster (The provider is paid at least 15 days faster by being electronic). I've heard the possibility of a per claim fee for paper claims too, never know what incentives they'll offer in the future.
