If the patient has Medicare, Federal Law demands that when a patient is transported for a non-emergency, a Physician Certification Statement (PCS), must be obtained within 48 hours of the transport.

An example is one you used. The patient was taken to the emergency department, from the nursing home, for an emergent medical condition. The patient has been stabilized and their condition is no longer emergent. The hospital calls to have the patient transported back to the nursing home. The ambulance crew should obtain the paperwork to take back to the nursing home with the patient and the ambulance crew should have one of the emergency department staff members or the ED physician sign the PCS form before they leave the ED.
